Muidugi vaatasin.
Muidugi on alati eestikeelset materjali raskem objektiivselt hinnata.
Jne.
Kõige parem screen-presence on Tiina Tauraitel.
Muigama ajavaid kohti.
Võib-olla oligi tegijate taotlus selline eklektiline tervikut etendav pusa. Ikkagi 90nendad.

tegeltkavä + Madge, get a life
See, kuidas suhtleme nt.
On totally another note - Benedict Cumberbatch and his maybe-maybe-maybe pregnant fiancee have won the internet. On every gossip-site there are tons of comments under any random Cumby-post. How has that happened? He beats Brangelina and Kim Kardashian, comments-wise. And on these same sites we find poor Madonna wrapping dead celebrities into black rubber stripes claiming them to be her fellow Rebel Hearts. Whatever that means. Number of comments? Too small to notice. I feel sorry for Madge. The woman is old enough to be my mother, but does not seem to have a clue how to sell herself at that age. I get her desire to be controversial, edgy, relevant etc., but to be honest - without at least a half-descent album she does not stand a chance. And the songs that "leaked", well ... they caused probably as much fuss as U2's latest forced download on iTunes. If that. She already is a pop icon, no need to make people forget that with her present-day awful PR.

Sons of Anarchy ... What a ride, brother
I fall into a very strange category of SOA fans. You see, just about three months ago I only knew these series existed and even that knowledge was a result of looking at Charlie Hunnam's IMDb page. Random posts by my co-worker/friend on FB suggesting soundtrack songs from SOA caught my attention, but I never moved past the music. My bad.
I decided to give SOA a go on one lazy Sunday afternoon after watching a Calvin Klein perfume ad where aforementioned Charlie Hunnam just made me forget everything about the product he was promoting. I mean, the man is hot. In a very old-fashioned way: dominant, but not aggressive, strong, but not condescending.
Jokes aside, I watched the first episode of SOA and I was sold. I watch a lot of stuff, some good, some bad, but I rarely get emotionally attached like I did with this.
And before I knew it, I had all the seasons on my iTunes library and exactly 50 days to watch a little over 90 episodes. Why 50 days, you ask. (Actually you don't, but I am trying to improve my creative writing here). After seeing the first three episodes I had no doubt in my mind that I have to see it all and the sooner the better. So I started my SOA marathon and although it makes me look like all twelve kinds of weirdo, I decided to be done with all the previous episodes by the time the final ride takes place. And I am so glad for that stubborn decision.
I got to experience this show in all its intensity. When you only watch an episode in a week, your own everyday life kicks in too strong and you lose touch with the characters or events. But watching it in a row, sometimes 4 or 5 episodes in a day (in a night - to be correct) gave me a totally different perspective of things.
Sons of Anarchy has created a lot of heated opinions, heavy debates about the use of violence and the overall conception of the show. I have no problem either with the concept or with the violence, because first of all - it's a fiction, y'all. And second - I see SOA more as a drama about family and brotherhood than a heroic praise-singing to a bunch of outlaws on a killing-spree. Yes, it can be totally senseless at times (hey, fiction, remember?), but it keeps you invested, attached. It keeps you caring about the characters and that's what I value the most. I love the casting of this show, it is hands down one of the best casts I have seen. It's real. It's realistic in the very best sense of the word. The interactions between characters come across as real as they can be on screen.
So I watched the #FinalRide on Tuesday with thousands of others. Coming through a thunderstorm of emotions this show had made me feel during the last 2 months. Some say the finale was too long, but I loved it. It gave me time to reflect on all my own feelings and thoughts while still keeping up with the events. It gave me time to cry and say good-bye to all of these guys. Somehow it made the right and wrong even. It gave me closure. I never doubted Kurt Sutter's ability to see the bigger picture and the finale proved it. Yes, it was pretty damn symbolic at the end, but c'mon - it was the last act of a play never seen on screens before.
I doubt I will ever rewatch these episodes. The first experience was too strong and I would like to keep it like this.

What you should and should not do
I should be writing about the election night coverage.
I should be depressed out of my mind that the time is running out and there is so much to do.
I should dedicate my every waking moment (I get to spend without kids) to organizing, controlling, screaming and shouting.
But no!
Instead I am genuinely happy about the fact that summer is finally over and my favourite TV-shows are back on screen.
First of all "Nashville" with fabulous Connie Britton. I became quite a fan of country music thanks to the first season of this show. I was under the impression of country music being a boring and ridiculous ji-ha for men too stupid to wear anything but boots and cowboy hats, but ... I could not have been more far from the truth. Country music - especially the early stages of it - is captivating and deep and brings out emotions like no other genre. This is me exaggerating again, but I can not help it. Think of Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline or even Kris Kristofferson ... listening to their songs have made me revaluate some things. Seriously.
Of course "Nashville" is not that deep. And the main reason I watch this show, apart from the music and Connie Britton, is a pure lust after Michiel Huisman - a dutch actor who came to my radar while playing Sonny in Treme. He is just so damn attractive and so spot on for this role. Too bad they don't give him as much air-time as I would like e. g 43 minutes per series. Just kidding.
Ok, moving on.
I also started with ABC's other hits that have reached season 3 - "Scandal" and "Revenge" and I am experiencing the same problem as at the beginning of last season. After having such strong season finales they both just fell flat in my eyes. "Revenge" does not make any sense - the characters are blurry and not in a good way and the events are just piled together for the sake of it. Maybe it has something to do with its new showrunner Sunil Nayar and his desire to "Go back to basics". We'll see.
"Scandal" disappointed me by being so weakly constructed. Kerry Washington is as sharp as ever, but the storylines just don't add up. They feel so forced and unnatural - maybe it is done on purpose? I have faith on Shonda Rhimes, she is a very clever woman who gets the viewers on the hook, one way or another.
I also tried to watch ABC's new thing "Betrayal", but - excuse my French - it was just boring as hell. Stuart Townsend and Hannah Ware's lips are the best part of it, but it is not enough to keep me interested. As picky as I am. Joke.

Fichtner, Weber and WWW
Living at the time where world wide web has already asked and answered all the questions one can think of, coming across something no one has blogged/commented/linked about makes you seriously question your own judgement. Which would have never happened, say, twenty years ago when we were blissfully in the dark about ... well, everything. Of course I am exaggerating as always, but still - half of the questions we nowadays only need Google and basic skills of two-finger typing to answer, were left making circles in our mind not so long ago.
And that brings me to the main issue of this post.
How come there is almost no mention of the fact that Fichtner looks so much like Steven Weber? They could pass for twins replacing Mary Kate and Ashley or something. Especially now when they are both older. This discovery does not cure cancer or solve the situation in Syria, but why has not anyone (except one line in Weber's IMDb page) posted pictures of them, compared face-lines and eye colour? You would think that at least one bored fan has a page dedicated to their similarities. No.
The point of this baroque introduction lies in the discovery I made last night while watching "Crossing Lines", new criminal series on NBC. It's a good one, by the way. And it has William Fichtner as a "headliner" which was partly the reason I took interest in that show.
Fichtner is one of those actors who work so much both in film and TV, but never get the recognition they deserve. He really comes across true to the character he is playing and he does not get boring and predictable even in series. Not to mention he has amazing eyes which make him ... irresistable.

Do I absolutely love obsessing about insignificant stuff like that? Hell yes!

Skater-Barbies & some eye-candy
I am watching "Real Housewives of Orange County" Reunions (Yes, shoot me now - that is how shallow I am) and before the ladies even started to speak I had a question. A serious one. What is going on with the dresses? They all look like contestants from a local figure-skating show. Where does one even get these .... weird pieces of fabric that does not make anyone either beautiful or stylish. And the "colour coordination" looks more like a kindergarten summer party than a get-together for 40-smth women. Bad, really bad. But it might be appealing to some audiences and bring the ladies some extra cash. Otherwise there is no explanation to that blue tablecloth so far from Heather's usual Chanel boredom or this peachy thing Vicky is tucked in.
How can I take seriously anything what they say when I constantly have to erase the picture of a doll-shop Barbie-shelf from my mind?
Oh, wait - seriously is definitely not the word I should use here, right?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And now comes the part where you can all laugh at me for being such an airhead and wasting my time with such nonsense.
And totally out of the blue I just have to post some pictures of Eric Bana. Just because.
Damn, he is hot.
Now you can laugh again.

If there's one wish that I have in life, it's to connect, to connect to my children, to connect to my wife, connect to my friends, to connect to you. On my tombstone, I'd like it to say: "He tried to connect."

Guess who ...
One of my favourite Hollywood comediennes - Cameron Diaz - is the cover-girl for Elle UK.
Doesn't she look a bit like Kristin Scott Thomas on this picture? Something in her eyes, right? Well, I like her as well, so she gets extra points for that.

Quick look at the red carpet ... Emmys of course
I will only post my favourite ladies here who happened to wear the most amazing outfits as well. I would kill (well, maybe not kill, but you know what I mean) for Julianna Marguiles' dress (Giambattista Valli) - it is just so beautiful. Not to mention Kerry Washington's Vivienne Westwood gown - so chic! I think Emily VanCamp is wearing J Mendel, it certainly looks like it. And Claire's dress is Lanvin.
I need to rob a bank. Seriously. Soon.

Time for new @Revenge
I absolutely love Revenge - a captivating ABC drama series created by Mike Kelley. I started to watch it because of Emily VanCamp who was brilliant in "Brothers & Sisters", but I did not expect the whole thing to be so damn good. I have to say it is probably the best casted US series I have seen for a long time. Madeleine Stowe for instance is so spot on in her role as Victoria Grayson that I find it hard to believe she could actually be a nice person in real life. Which she definitely is. Also the character of Gabriel Mann - IT genius Nolan Ross - is so different from what is expected in such a genre. I also admire Ashley Madekwe who brings along a touch of brit arrogance and immaculate style.
So - as you can see, I am totally obsessed by it. I can not remember the last time I was so caught up in TV since Knight Rider .... Some of my friends are laughing at me and I can not blame them not understanding the revenge-appeal. Maybe there is something hidden in me that has drawn this plot so close to my heart? But you have to agree that revenge is a desire pretty easy to relate to. In some way or another we have all felt the urge to get even, make "the bad guys" pay for our heartaches etc.

Mr. B
I just watched "Traffic" again. It has such a great cast and Soderbergh is so good telling stories like this. I am not so thrilled about the blue-yellow separation trick he used in "Traffic", but it is a minor problem. Especially as one of my favourite actors makes such a brilliant role there. Of course I am talking about Benicio Del Toro who has kept a special place in my heart already since "China Moon" and "Basquiat".
I know that he is considered weird and scruffy and some might even say that he is not such a great actor, but I totally disagree. Yes, he does not play in many films, but the ones he chooses to be a part of usually tend to be quite significant. I doubt "21 grams" would be half as good without him. Or "Snatch". Or "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Del Toro is just one of these guys who crawls under your skin and stays there. Whether you like it or not. I like it. A lot.

Fast Five

The Social Network
Believe it or not, but I just got around to watching The Social Network on DVD. Although I have heard the soundtrack (thanks to my undying love for Trent Reznor) and read a handful of reviews. I did not have any expectations to be honest. Just thought I might like the movie because of the music and maybe because of Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake. Eisenberg was brilliant, really spot on in his mumblings and reactions, best casting I have seen in a while. Timberlake on the other hand was pretty predictable - he just needed to show up and act like the character in many of his music videos.
The movie was interesting to watch, but at some point it just ended very abruptly. I understand there was not much material to pull from RL without getting filmmakers' own asses sued, but still ... I wish there would have been some kind of a different "closure" instead of plain titles.
All and all I truly recommend the film to facebook-junkies out there although all the events and characters are not 100 per cent accurate, so I would not base my final judgements on that. E.g. Sean Parker (played by Justin Timberlake) was not the founder of Napster as stated in the film, but one of the early employees of the firm.
P.S. Check this out, it's quite clever

Sex and the City 2 ... waste of time & money
I took a deep breath and started to watch "Sex and the City 2". I was a sucker for SATC series when it started in 1998 and I have probably seen some of the episodes more than ten times. I was quite disappointed in the first movie, but it was worth seeing mainly because of the clothes and some witty dialogue. After reading reviews about SATC 2 (and I mean reviews from people whose opinion really matters and who have made similar film-related choices as me in the past) I decided not to see it unless it comes to telly. But somehow I came across that really cheap DVD today and I couldn't resist.Needless to say that if I am able to blog while watching a film then it really has to be a bad one.
00:20:00 So - twenty minutes in and nothing interesting has happened. The "girls" look old, even Kristen Davis (Charlotte) has lost her youthful preppy looks. And Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) is definitely pushing it too far. All her Carrie-gestures, eye-rolling and giggling just feels like a bad remake of an original. The only things keeping me even remotely interested are Samantha's lines.
00:24:00 The braless nanny ... don't even know what to say about that.
00:25:00 A glimpse of Carrie's wardrobe and apartment. So that's how the chosen ones live in Manhattan? Definitely not my style or taste, looks a bit like furniture shop.
00:26:00 What's with the dialogue between Big and Carrie? Boring.
00:28:00 Miranda is still cool and delivers her scene well.
00:29:00 The braless nanny again. In slow motion. Again. I see where this is heading.
00:30:55 offtopic It brakes my heart to see the babies crying.
00:32:00 Ok, first the nanny braless, now Samantha pantless ... and ding-ding-ding! We have Smith Jerrod shirtless.
00:60:00 An hour! An hour and almost nothing has happened worth mentioning. Except some really bad dialogue and constant eye-rolling. It all just seems so fake and clinically constructed. When does the film start?
00:64:30 It looks more like a program on a travel channel. "Beautiful hotel interiors of Abu Dhabi"
Not to mention Miranda's occasional comments about Middle-East culture.
00:68:45 Sarah Jessica Parker in sleeveless top is scary. The woman should really cover up her arms.
00:71:40 And some word of wisdom while warming the milk.
00:74:00 Yawn. If something doesn't happen in few minutes I will stop watching this.
00:76:48 And there he is, approaching Carrie in slow motion. Aidan. Of course.
My DVD player just stopped working. Even the machine understands a bad product. Have to switch to the computer.
00:81:50 The miraculous arrival of Aidan seemed like a promising turning point, but no! The ladies have to conquer the desert first. Just to show off some clothes in a "Book a camel-ride for four" commercial.
00:86:00 Danish architect just passed by at the desert to say he is not going back to the hotel yet.
00:88:30 Now what? Karaoke? Are you kidding me? The SATC first movie really starts to look like a piece of jewelry next to that catastrophe. I feel like literally throwing up now. They should have at least picked some cool and funky song and presented it totally wrong.
00:91:00 At least the danish architect is hot
00:93:00 The first scene I actually like. Carrie's reaction to the bad book review seems accurate
00:95:20 Ok, it finally starts to develop something here. Although we know what will happen, it still beats the travelchannelesque rubbish shown us so far.
00:97:45 Charlotte and Miranda have it heart to heart discussing the ups and downs of motherhood. Not so bad. "Take a sip!"
00:101:30 The scene with Aidan & Carrie at the dinner has tension in it. Feels real.
00:104:00 The girls process the news of Carrie and Aidan kissing. Love Charlotte in that scene. Hate Carrie, so overacted once again.
00:107:00 The danish architect is still hot. And Samantha is Samantha.
00:108:00 The contrast between Carrie's looks and her acting like a 20 year old is just so fake.
00:111:00 Sex On The Beach and its consequences. Didn't we all know that a condom will drop on the table?
00:113:00 Carrie doing the fake-sobbing routine again. Waiting for the film to end. Just discovered it will continue for another 30 minutes. Yawn. Double-yawn.
00:118:00 Carrie has left her passport at the market table. And of course it is still there.
00:121:30 Samantha's little "Bite me!" show seems really tacky. Not funny as it was probably meant to be.
00:122:00 Yeah right, follow some strange women to some "secret room"to be praised for being brave americans. I expected to see the muslim women to drop their burkas and show "the spring collection". And they did! --- Carrie showing her leg under a burka to get a taxi .... yikes!
00:128:00 Another minute of bad dialogue between Big and Carrie, but the ring was a nice twist.
00:130:00 And another corny piece of dialogue.
And a corny end.
How did they managed to pull off 146' film without almost anything happening during that time? I mean, seriously. There is no relevant story-line in that, no character growth or clever twist at the end. Everything is either so predictable or absolutely meaningless. Take the gay-wedding for a start - what was the point of that considering the following (non)events?
To wrap this experience up. Crap.
See, it even rhymes.

Gwyneth vs. Kate
I went for a walk today and stopped for a latte in my local Park Cafe. Their magazine selection contained two copies of British Vouge having Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet on cover.
I read the interview with Kate and just enjoyed it. She is one of my favourite actresses (together with Meryl Streep of course) and as you know I can get pretty obsessed about the people I like. In a good way, I mean. I just try to read as many interviews and see as many films or listen to as many records as I possibly can. And I love Kate. In addition to being absolutely brilliant actress she is just so approachable, so grounded in her choices, not to mention so well-spoken and funny. And all of this comes through in her interviews and even the typical kiss-ass comments from the editors don't change the way she presents herself. Of course she has a "public face" and I do believe that the Kate without journalists & photographers is much different from what we know, but still - she comes across as a real person.
As I had more time to spare I went through Gwyneth Paltrow's interview as well. I don't care much for Gwyneth as an actress, but I don't hate her. And the fact that she is married to Chris Martin and used to be Madonnas BFF makes her at least somewhat interesting. But this interview .... it was just horrible. Gwyneth sounded so smug and unreal, like she was a freakin' Queen teaching all the clueless people out there how to live and bragging about how great it is to be Gwyneth Paltrow. And the obsession that women has about her body! You are thin, you look great - but for crying out loud - stop taking about your butt now! Not to mention her bitching about Madonna ... why on earth you have to say things like that in a magazine? No matter what Madonna did on didn't do, it is not your business to share. So it is safe to say that this interview erased Gwyneth from my good books. At least for now.
I totally understand (as I mentioned before about Kate as well) that the way celebrities present themselves might all be an act and well-calculated strategy and sometimes a bad editor can make a total sweetheart sound like Charles Manson, but still ... I believe you can not hide who you really are, there is always something that gives away the "real" you.
P.S. The clothes Gwyneth wears on Vogue's photos are fabulous. And she looks like a supermodel, no doubt about that. But then again - the photos are taken by Mario Testino. As are Kate's.

Seks, valed ja eneseusk ... make your pick
Selles raamatus - for the lack of a better word - leidsin ma tegelikult ainult ühe huvitava loo. See puudutas filmi "The Holiday", kus Katrin olevat töötanud nädalaid Cameron Diazi kehadublandina.
"The Holiday" on üks minu lemmikuid romantiliste komöödiate seas (eelkõige tänu Kate Winsletile ja Cameron Diazile).
Cameron Diazi stand-in selles filmis oli Madison R. Wells, kes on Cameroni stand-in olnud ka filmides "My Sister's Keeper", "In Her Shoes", "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle". Kuid siiski on Cooperi kehadublandiks olemise kohta filmis "The Holiday" üsna mitu viidet. Näiteks siin ja siin.
IMDb "The Holiday" trivia sektsioonist leidsin sellise infokillu - In the Special Features, Cameron Diaz claims this movie is her most physical due to all the running she had to do - mis seab omakorda kahtluse alla Katrini väite, et kõikides jooksu- ja kohvrivedamise stseenides on tema, mitte Cameron. Ka režissöör Nancy Meyers kiidab Rob Carnevalele antud intervjuus Cameroni just kohvrivedamise stseenis - But she’s also extraordinarily gifted as a physical comedian. I can’t think of other women that I think are that funny, that can do that kind of stuff such as slipping and sliding on the ice. We initially brought in a stuntwoman because it was the first day of shooting and we didn’t want Cameron breaking her leg, but as we were watching Cameron asked: “Do you mind if I try it?” She did it in one or two takes.
Stuntwoman, keda selles lõigus mainitakse, on lõputiitrites märgitud Nina Armstrong, kes on Cameroniga töötanud ka filmides "The Gangs of New York"ja "Charlie's Angels".
Katrin paigutab enda tööaja alguse filmi juures märtsi keskele ja väidab, et võtted Inglismaal olevat kestnud lausa aprilli keskpaigani.
Hello! veebist leidsin selle uudise, mille kohaselt filmiti Cameroni kohvritega lumes sumpamise stseeni veebruari alguses. Ka see blogipostitus annab Shere's toimunud võtete üheks kuupäevaks 11. veebruari.
Lisaks kinnitavad mitmed allikad, nt. Cinemareview, et - Production on The Holiday began in Los Angeles, then moved to England for a month before completing filming back in L.A.
Isegi imestan.

Cannes 2011
Just glimpsed through the lineup of Cannes film festival 2011. At first I was pretty surprised to discover Woody Allen's "Midnight In Paris" to be the kick off for the whole thing. But as it has Carla Bruni playing the Museum Guide and the rest of the cast is quite star-struck as well it might not be the worst choice after all. At least if gives the opening night its fare share of red-carpet worthy stars.
The Main Competition is pretty descent this year and might I add - the big guns are back. (I highlighted my personal favourites)
Pedro Almodóvar: La Piel que Habito
Bertrand Bonello: L'Apollonide - Souvenirs de la Maison Close
Alain Cavalier: Pater
Joseph Cedar: Hearat Shulayim
Nuri Bilge Ceylan: Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da
Jean-Pierre et Luc Dardenne: Le Gamin au Vélo
Aki Kaurismäki: Le Havre
Naomi Kawase: Hanezu No Tsuki
Julia Leigh: Sleeping Beauty
Maïwenn Le Besco: Polisse
Terrence Malick: The Tree of Life
Radu Mihaileanu: La Source des Femmes (The Source)
Takashi Miike: Ichemei (Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai)
Nanni Moretti: Habemus Papam
Lynne Ramsay: We Need to Talk About Kevin
Markus Schleinzer: Michael
Paolo Sorrentino: This Must be the Place
Lars Von Trier: Melancholia
Nicolas Winding Refn: Drive
I am happy for Almadovar working with Antonio Banderas again (Although the film itself is a bit different from Almadovars usual work. It is said to be quite dark & twisted). I have always liked Banderas, but I feel that Almadovar can really bring out the best of him.
Lynne Ramsay's "We Need to Talk About Kevin" has Tilda Swinton playing Eva and I can not wait to see this. I already know she is going to be brilliant in it, I actually can not imagine anyone else in that role. I do find John C. Reilly to be a pretty predictable choice for Franklin. Kevin Spacey would have rocked this (in my mind), but we'll see.

#RealMen
Here are some of the videos which are part of the Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore’s campaign to bring awareness to human trafficking and child sex slavery. A very good cause, no doubt about that. This is a serious problem which demands full attention from all of us, but these clips ... They are just wrong. The concept of these clips comes across as a weak attempt to be funny and serious at the same time and to be honest - it makes the whole issue of human trafficking seem light. As Richard Lawson says it on Gawker Everyone needs a joke now and then, but do we really need one now, when discussing the very real and very horrifying problem of sex slavery? Hm, no, I don't think we do? So it's a bit strange that that's the angle Ash and Dem chose to go with these ads, featuring silly things that Real Men are doing followed by Jessica Biel or Eva Longoria informing us who are Real Men. See, Real Men don't buy sex slaves. See that's how that works. So... no more sex slaves then, because Sean Penn made a grilled cheese? Right
I have been following #RealMen tweets for couple of days now and it seems Ashton really has his heart in it. Although I do not exactly see the outcome of all this social fuss. But I will not judge it just now - let's see how it turns out.
